Self Transformation

Sometimes I like to get on here and just talk. For a long while now I have been struggling with a lot of personal issues that have to do with self image, time management and my overall outlook on life. It's not to say that life isn't great in many aspects but I do struggle a lot none the less. And who doesn't, right? Anyway, I want to be able to organize my life and do some real work on my lifestyle. I have been unhealthy for years, lacking confidence in all aspects of my life and short-changing myself for as long as I can remember. I am in need of some serious changes and I'd like to take the time off to get these changes into gear. It simply means that I'm going on a well needed hiatus.

A lot of the time I skip out on blogging for weeks and then I come back with an apology after the fact. But this time I'm letting you know beforehand because I dislike the direction in which my life is going right now (if there is any direction at all) and I know that something needs to be done about it. I won't be able to dedicate much time to my blog as well as other hobbies but I'm working on a way to make it all manageable. I may be gone for a few weeks. I may be gone for less. The only thing that is sure is that I will be working on myself to the fullest extent that I can through a change in my entire lifestyle. I can only hope that things work out in my best interests, however it's always great to remember that nothing transforms over night. Every accomplishment is driven by a dream that takes work to achieve.

I hope all my readers can bare with me at this time and stick with me in the future when I decide that I am ready to blog again. Keep in touch.

Peace, Love & Blaze,
Afayah

Style Profile: Natasha Lee

Hey everyone! I'm so excited to feature Natasha Lee. I found her via Instagram and she is one of the most fashionable young people from Jamaica represented on the internet right now. But you be the judge of that. Here's my interview of the budding fashion icon below.

Beauty Jamaica (BJ): Who are you?

Natasha Lee (NL): My name is Natasha Lee, from the beautiful island of Jamaica. More recently known as the stylish Mobay Gal with the Big Curly Fro.

BJ: What do you do in your free time?

NL: Apart from styling, makeup and photography which I am mostly known for, I am a lover of the earth, so my free time is spent by the Beach, with a few friends, few drinks and a good book. (currently reading Kaleidoscope by Danielle Steel)

BJ: Describe your style.

NL: I don’t have a defined sense of style and I actually find my style to be rather eclectic and very dependent on my moodfrom girly to tomboy or glam and chic to edgy and cool. I’ll pick and choose from various pieces from thrift, designer, or everyone’s go to store ‘forever 21,’ while interpreting them into my own personal way.

I do believe however in starting any wardrobe out with classic, basic and versatile pieces, because these essentials will lay a foundation for putting together every single outfit.  By essentials I mean- thin slouchy cotton tees, chambray or plaid blouse for layeringand classic blue denim pants. Once you have basic pieces it will be much easier for the not too fashion savvy gals to put together a fierce yet effortless outfit. So I for one like taking one bold piece (whether it be a neon yellow handbag, studded denim high waist shorts, or an embellished blouse) and pair it with basic pieces that are so versatile, it can be easily dressed up or dressed down (a white or black teeclassic denim pants).

am also an advocate for recycling items in my closet. Like using the same oversized T-shirt I wore to class because of its simplicity and comfort, and turning it into something chic and girly for a night out on the town. Oh and I should mention my obsession with neutrals, black & white and wearing an entire outfit from the same color palette from head to toe, Yes! I too am a monochromatic lover.

BJ: When did you first show interest in fashion?

NL: Ive always had this innate sense of fashion, so the interest has always been there.

BJ: Do you have any style icons? If so, who are they and why?

NL: YES YES YES and YES! her name is....SOLANGE KNOWLES. Everyone is all over her sis Queen Bey, but not me... I'm a little obsessed with her lil sis Soli. I love how she isn't afraid to take risks, and her love for mixing prints, patterns, fabrics, colors and just about everything in between. Her style pushes me to challenge myself to always come up with something new and invigorating.

BJ: Do you have any obsessions right now?

NL: My hologram heels from ZARA and every pair of sunglasses I own (24 and counting...)

BJ: Where are your favourite Jamaican spots?

NL: Doctors Cave Beach, Pier One in Montego Bay. Jacks Sprat in St. Elizabeth. Frenchmans Cove in Port Antonio & just about every single river/falls in Jamaica (I love the water).

Natasha is currently working on a blog but in the meantime you're able to find all her fashion updates on Instagram HERE!

Thanks for reading!

Colour vs. Monochrome OOTD

I felt really colourful on Saturday night so I went crazy with the colour. Then today I just felt totally opposite of that and I went with an all-black outfit. I have to say the monochrome outfit is my favourite of the two even though the former is more playful. But trust me, I got so many more compliments in my all-black get up. It felt really great. Check them out below.

I have a massive haul coming next month but I'm not sure if I should shoot a video or just make a post about it. Let me know what you think.

Please email all styling inquiries to: afayah@beautyjamaica.com

Introducing... Outfitted by Afayah

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to accompany my friend as his personal shopper to Escales in Terra Nova Hotel. The aim was to get a few stand out pieces that spoke to his personality but were also versatile. He was immediately drawn to the printed shirt seen below, which was one of the items he purchased.

The experience was very fun - styling and making practical decisions with my client. Needless to say that this will not be my last time because I now offer personal shopping consultation along with styling; or styling on its own if a client prefers. I'm officially introducing my services to the public and will have rates available soon and upon request.

I endeavor to help my clients find their true style while having fun. I want to help people to really think about their attire even without my help. It's a learning process but a fun one none the less. And what is fashion if you aren't having fun with it? My client was very pleased with his purchases that day. Give me a call and I will make your experience worth it!

Thanks so much for supporting my blog so far and I hope you can all come with me on my journey into the fashion world as a wardrobe stylist and personal shopper.
