Body Piercing Aftercare

Hey everyone! I hope your Easter weekend was fun. Time to catch up on some more lifestyle tips. Today I'm focusing on body piercings. I know that body piercings, depending on where they are on the body and who you are, can vary in healing time. These are simple steps to take to keep all of your body piercings clean and ensure a safe healing process.
  • Try not to wear clothing that is too tight. It may drag on your piercings and aggravate them.
  • Slacking off on cleaning does not help one bit. You need to keep clean at all times.
  • Wash your hands because you're going to want to touch your piercings.
Generally, you will need sea salt or a saline solution. After washing your hands thoroughly, wipe your piercings with this every day to get rid of "crusting". Sometimes people recommend that you twist your jewelery to remove the crust around it. But, in my opinion, it will only spread that into the fresh part of the piercing. Bathe thoroughly! That also helps with keeping clean. Take a shower instead of sitting in a bath that will allow bacteria some time to start working on your piercing.

As silly as it sounds, wearing clean and breathable clothing is a great help. Cotton is your best bet. Keep your bed linens clean as well. Try not to remove the piercing, do not pull on anything, play with anything, touch anything unless you're cleaning it. You will aggravate your piercing and will slow down the healing time. Avoid ointments, anything that can trap a proper flow of air to the pierced areas.

Do not panic if it bleeds or secretes puss or anything like that. You will clean it everyday at least in the shower or at some other point. Do not clean the piercing every hour. Over cleaning gives it no room to heal at all. You simply have to be careful enough to not get hurt and not care enough to worry about it all the time. Here is a list of piercings and their healing times:

I hope this information was helpful!
