Recently I came across a fairly new website dedicated to online shopping in the Caribbean. It was first introduced to me as the Jamaica Shopping Network but has recently spawned into the Caribbean Shopping Channel. According to a rep, this site intends to become "the fashion, home décor and kitchen authority in all Caribbean influenced product. Broadcast in the US, Canada and the Caribbean through the Omniverse platform reaching 60 million viewers, CSC is poised to become a leading international brand built with the Caribbean heritage in mind."
This network has big dreams and it's encouraging to see Caribbean entrepreneurship at a level like this. After speaking with a rep about the site I was told that "a co-founder in the Jamaica Shopping Network and a host of some of the programs, Keisha William, is from Jamaica but moved to Canada years ago, just like thousands of other Caribbean immigrants. She found that many of her favorite products could not be found in North America, so she asked her parents to fill their suitcases with food, hair products, designer products, etc. from her native country whenever they came to visit her. She recognized that this was a common need among many other Caribbean immigrants, and that's how the focus of JSN came into place - it is a hub of these specially curated products."
Admittedly, there is a lot going on on the site and some things may not yet be fully implemented. However, I'm always pleased to see Caribbean forces take on big industries. If you're interested as well then visit the Caribbean Shopping Channel and shop away!
